“A voice had begun to sing!” The Magician’s Nephew by C.S. Lewis

Reading the chapter eight to chapter nine of the book The Magician’s Nephew from The Chronicles of Narnia took my breath away. At first, I found myself in the darkness with Digory, Polly, Cabby and Strawberry.

“This is an empty world. This is nothing!”
“There were no stars. It was so dark that they couldn’t see one another at all and it made no difference whether you kept your eyes shut or open.”

The darkness didn’t last long, for “a voice had begun to sing!” and wonders appeared. Keep reading …

“One moment there had been nothing but darkness; next moment a thousand, thousand points of light leapt out – single stars, constellations, and planets, brighter and bigger than any in our world… The new stars and the new voices began at exactly the same time.”

“The eastern sky changed from white to pink and from pink to gold. The Voice rose and rose, till all the air was shaking with it. And just as it swelled to the mightiest and most glorious sound it had yet produced,

THE SUN AROSE.”

“When you listened to his song you heard the things he was making up: when you looked around you, you saw them.”

“Narnia, Narnia, Narnia, awake. Love. Think. Speak. Be walking trees. Be talking beasts. Be divine waters.”

Don’t you think it is very beautiful? A world formed by songs! One page before, I was still in total darkness, one page later, a fresh created Narnia with countless star and the sun. New voices, new songs and a new world – Narnia comes into being!

I suggest we try singing, maybe we can create new things with our voices? What do you think?
