New Year – Part 3

6. Morning Coffee

It was so pleasant meeting one of my housemates that time for morning coffee. We had a big kitchen and huge dining room in our house where we used to meet each other. The morning coffee has woken up this memory. In this lovely international house, I met these wonderful people. Over the years, my housemates make an effort to keep in touch, however, I sadly missed out so many of their life events. This is also the reason why I was extremely happy that Ru has time to meet me with her son!

7. Charity shop hopping

This is my hobby. I miss reading english books. Charity shops are the place to get great book at a small price. I have got books like “Paddington Bear” and “Paradise Lost”.

8. Fish and Chips at Blackboy Hill

A and I met again as promised, we were in the same master programme. She launched “Alalay” to help street children in Bolivia and she has been working for the UK Government’s Stabilisation Unit in Ukraine.

We talked about the value of life, disappointment, disillusion of what we used to believe and we also talked about hope. The conversation I had with A in this tiny restaurant with only one table was the highlight of this trip. Why? Because J.S. Bach came into the scene.

“You love Bach, right?” A asked.
“Yes.”
“Now, listen! Michael Kevin Jones contacted me, he came to Bolivia and played cello for the Children.”
“Interesting!”
“He played some popular songs and children songs on his cello. Anyway, he played Bach, and the children listened with wide opened eyes and jaw dropped.”
I felt like crying hearing this.
“Thank you for telling me this!”
“And he came to Bristol, played another fundraising concert for Alalay. I have the DVD of this concert, I will give it to you.”

She has given me the DVD which I watched with watery eyes. All these years, all the lemons of life that I have bitten, all the tears that I shed WORTH. Music makes sense, it can reach out, it helps people find peace, it carries people through the darkest time. And the Bolivian children love Bach like I do! This sentence has been replayed again and again in my mind.
