Crossing the Danube river

Regensburg is not as exciting as antipasti, nor as splendid as main course, but it is like a cup of espresso after meal. It is perfectly calm, tasty and strong. I was charmed by its peaceful force at the first sight.

After walking around in the glamour dazzling Paris for days, the serene Regensburg was all I needed. It is literally no noise pollution at all in the night, I needed no noise-cancelling earbuds to sleep, what a rare blessing!

I looked at the stone bridge over the Danube and the old town from far away, it recalled me of the landscape embroidery made by my late grandmother, hanging in my childhood dining room. It was not exactly the same view, nevertheless, their similarity is the feeling of the view, it is like an invitation to lay down my burden and enjoy the tranquil moment.

The very delicious restaurant down the street made me feel at home, it served the best Salat Pescatore (Fisherman or Seafood Salat) I’ve ever tasted. After walking in the old town, I would stopped by the restaurant and ordered takeaway to enjoy in my cozy room. It was a relaxation at a very good quality.

The crowning experience was the concert in the theatre. All concert hall lost its colour if one has seen The Palais Garnier in Paris. So what? Ultimately, no matter how grand is the building, it is the one who make music breaths soul into the building. (But please do not get me wrong, The Palais Garnier is really amazing and worth visiting.)

Also, I experienced a miracle here. I’ve been sick since March, after recovered from one sickness, the next sickness has already arrived. I still cannot smell properly after corona, still fortunate enough that I was tested negative for Covid19 before holiday so that I could travel. However, I have a blocked nose all the time.

But I was healed miraculously on my last night in the city. All of a sudden, I can breath freely and do not need to clear my nose in every 2 minutes. It felt surreal when I have relied heavily on tissue since March all the time. The cold has gone, just like that. How wonderful!

I truly adored my time at the place where Regen river comes and joins the Danube river, it is called Regensburg.

Let the Danube flow along
And the Fledermauss
Keep the wine and give me song
By ……………
(PS Listen to music for the answer 😉)

The Stone Bridge (Steinerne Brücke) in Regensburg, Germany, is a 12th-century bridge across the Danube linking the Old Town with Stadtamhof. For more than 800 years, until the 1930s, it was the city’s only bridge across the river. It is a masterwork of medieval construction and an emblem of the city.
