Since I’ve read The Story of the Root Children by Sibylle von Olfers, every year in February, I would imagine the root children are sewing new clothes for the flowers. The meadow doesn’t look like much happened, but the root children are preparing the most beautiful spring costumes for it.
This book is one of the first books that I read in German language. Sibylle von Olfers (1881 – 1916) drew and wrote it. While I read her biography, I gasped at the brevity of life. 35 years old. It is a wake-up call to me. Don’t wait until life is getting better nor retirement, but NOW. Keep my life as simple as possible and focus on the things that truly matter. May it be to finish the unfinished symphony, to record the next recordings, to write the coming books, to practice the next organ trio sonata and etc. Whatever they are, NOW is the time for things that matter most.
The song of the day is inspired by the book. The opening of The Story of the Root Children:
“Get up! Get up! Spring is coming!”
“Wacht auf, wacht auf, ihr Kinderlein, es wird un wohl bald Frühling sein!”
It reminds me of a song, also repeating the word:
“Get up! Get up!
And I’ve already seen your cheery lover.
Get up, sleepy-head!
Sleepy-head, get up!
Get up! Get up!
Langschläfer, steh’ auf!
Steh’ auf! Steh’ auf!”
