This book is simply beautiful. May be it’s because I love music, the chapter that describes Daniyar’s singing in one August night took my soul away.

A story about friendship between Jamila, Daniyar and Seit in Kyrgzstan during World War II. They were living in a farming culture which traditional custom was dominating everyone. Life was hard, but they tried to do their best and haven’t give a thought on a different lifestyle.

Until one August night, when Daniyar started to sing, life could never be the same again for Jamila, Daniyar and Seit. His voice and his songs has awakened something that call for a change. Read the book for the rest and I share with you one quote:

“May you (Jamila) recall that August night! … … I (Seit) hear Daniyar’s voice. He is calling to me to set out, and that means it is time for me to prepare for the journey. I will cross the steppe to my native village and will find new colours there. May my every brush-stroke resound with Daniyar’s song! May my every brush-stroke echo the sound of Jamila’s beating heart! ”
