Who has the most beautiful little sheep?

Who has the most beautiful little sheep? Wer hat die schönsten Schäfchen?

Do you know who?
I did not know who until I read the poem written by August Heinrich Hoffmann von Fallersleben (1798-1874). The answer is the moon. The moon has the most beautiful little sheep. The dark blue sky is his meadow, and the little white stars are his little sheep.

Why the stars are the most beautiful little sheep? Because they are at peace with each other. So little children, be nice to your brother and sister, like the most beautiful sheep on the sky meadow. We feel powerless to stop the current unrest, nevertheless we could with all our might to prevent the future unrest. One way to do it is to sing a peaceful song with children.

More facts about the poet August Heinrich Hoffmann von Fallersleben, his text is the lyrics of German National Anthem. What an achievement! Still he had a heart for little children. His lyrics are the most popular German nursery songs, for example: about bees “Summ, summ, summ”, about birds “Alle Vögel sind schon da”, and “Der Kukuck und der Esel” is about the singing competition between kukuck and donkey (my favourite).

More sheepy music? Here you go, “Sheep may safely graze” by J.S. Bach. Have a peaceful sleep. Good night!
