Home

The more I enjoy travelling, the more I enjoy being at home again. Last week I was almost camping at church because of preparing the recital. I only come home for food and sleep, so no camping at church. Therefore, I appreciate that yesterday I could just stay at home. Well, not quite, I had choir practice at evening. The very last choir practice. I am retreating from being a conductor as I leave this job in two weeks.

If you read my previous blog posts, you knew that what kind of things I’ve done for my Spinet. Yesterday, the humidity measurement device arrived. I like the smiley that indicating how comfortable is my room and if my Spinet is happy.

My plants are definitely happy, in the garden or inside the room. Just keep blooming. The birds still singing beautifully, I will open my windows and doors when the blackbird start to sing, despite the cold air.

Since March, I can not buy any oil and flours anymore. They are always sold out. I guess this situation is similar to the “loo rolls phenomena” during the corona time in last two years. Now is because of the war in Ukraine. But my neighbour was so generous to give me one pack. I felt guilty to mention this to her. When I think of people who died in the most brutal way that one could imagine, who forced to leave home country, how trivial is the thing I care about like I have no flour. However, with gladness I accepted this, because it was her kindness and she knew that baking is my therapy when I get stressed.

That’s all about my home.

Fancy some songs about “home”? Recently I am listening to “The Road Home” by Stephen Paulus performed by Voces8. I love it. Scroll down for the music and lyrics.

Tell me, where is the road
I can call my own,
That I left, that I lost,
So long ago?
All these years I have wandered,
Oh, when will I know
There’s a way, there’s a road
That will lead me home?

After wind, after rain,
When the dark is done.
As I wake from a dream
In the gold of day,
Through the air there’s a calling
From far away,
There’s a voice I can hear,
That will lead me home.

Rise up, follow me,
Come away, is the call,
With the love in your heart
As the only song;
There is no such beauty
As where you belong
:
Rise up, follow me,
I will lead you home

Music: Stephen Paulus
Lyrics: Michael Dennis Browne

Another popular song about home is “Home, Sweet Home”. A nursery rhyme could be so elegant when interpreted by fine artists.
