A music for tomorrow

A blog I’ve written on March 23, 2022 received a comment recently. The blog is about a cantata by Johann Sebastian Bach – Ich habe genug, BWV 82. The memories of when and where I’ve heard this cantata in concert come back to me, summer in Stuttgart, Advent in Cologne and winter in Berlin. In a way, it has become a tradition.

Today is the perfect day to write about this cantata again, because J.S. Bach composed it for the occasion – The Presentation of Jesus at the Temple. This festival is on the 40th day after Christmas, which is 2nd February. Part of this world, 2nd of February has arrived. The essence of this cantata is about the profound peace and contentment that found in Jesus.

In my previous blog – Miscellaneous thoughts on music, I’ve asked: “How much more is enough? Am I content?”

This cantata is the answer. The title of the cantata in English is “My life is fulfilled!” Am I able to say this when my time has come? And the comment I received on the blog reminded me about this. So precious. I have to share it here, it’s so well written.

…to achieve contentment is to be like a baby, not a king.”
Such beautifully written reflection. Aren’t funerals such fitting places for us to ponder upon lives as we face the destined end to every single of us on earth.
But to be a baby, to be content in love, and have the profound peace that follows, are beautiful and wise conclusions to the reflection. And I thank you for it.

Tonight’s lullaby is BWV82, what else?
Slumber now, my eyes so languid, fall asleep most peacefully …
😊 Good night and have a peaceful sleep!
