A prayer, a poem and music for Eternity Sunday

Today is Eternity Sunday in Germany. It is a Protestant religious holiday commemorating the dead. I would like to share 3 pieces that touch my heart on this very special Sunday.

1. A prayer in English:

God be in my head and in my understanding. God be in mine eyes and in my looking. God be in my mouth and in my speaking. God be in my heart and in my thinking. God be at mine end and in my departing. (From the Sarum Primer, 1545)

Below is a choir piece based on the prayer composed by John Rutter:

2. A poem in German by Hanns Dieter Hüsch:

3. An organ piece played by me: “God’s time is the very best time”

 Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750)
Sinfonia from Cantata BWV 106 “Gottes Zeit ist die allerbeste Zeit”
Arranged for organ by Alexandre Guilmant (1837-1911)

Note:

I’m playing on this Sunday and I’m amazed by how much do I love Bach.
